The Tragic love affair of Jack Dawson and Rose Dewitt Bukater
against time and against fate
aboard the "ship of dreams" ~~Titanic~~

Titanic is a must-see movie. A tragic 3 1/2 hour love affair between Jack Dawson and Rose Dewitt Bukater practically brought to life. The script included humor , sarcasm, hilarity, seriousness, and in the end tragedy to a young couple who had risked all to be together.
Even I must admit a movie is only that, just a movie. However, if the script can be brought to life through the actors, actresses, supporting cast, directors, and producers, those are the kind that make us realize that they can be only too real to some of us. Fairy tale or no, they makes us face some of the uglier truths of man at his worst or at his best, and I must clap my hands in righteous approval of the makers of Titanic. I mean, after all, we never would have met Jack and Rose if it weren't for their hard work and brillian talent.
~~~~~~STANDING OVATION~~~~~~
Now, time to talk about the sad part. I hated it when Jack died. After all, they just found each other, didn't they? And remember Rose wading through all of that freezing water trying to find Jack and then trying to find something to hack the handcuffs off?? Then, the problems of trying to get past those stupid gates. Then you take into account everyone trampling everyone else. It got so bad that one mother took her kids to their room and put them to bed. She wanted to make it easier for them.
But, alas, there is the sad, ugly truth we must face. Man at his worst. Trying to get to the boats and not worrying about anyone else. And then our hero and heroine go and take that way big jump into the ocean from the tip of Titanic. Wow, was that a breath-holder or what? I was so relieved when they both finally came up.
Now, why did Jack have to go and die on us? Because it is the final drama in this ill-fated love affair. Because Rose was destined to tell us her story. I'm a romantic and I tend to lean toward the fantasy side and the fairy tale love stories. And this was definitely one of them.
Hats off to James Cameron and James Horner.
(The Tragedy)The Tragedy of TitanicApril 10, 1912. Technology had been delivering a steady stream of miracles for the better part of two decades and people were beginning to take this never-ending spiral of progress for granted. What better demonstration of humanity's mastery over nature than the launch of Titanic, the largest and most luxurious moving object ever built by the hand of man? But four-and-a-half days later, the world had changed. The maiden voyage of the "ship of dreams" ended in a nightmare beyond comprehension and mankind's faith in its own indomitable power was forever destroyed by uniquely human shortcomings: arrogance, complacency and greed.
(Faith, Courage, and Love)Faith, Courage and LoveMy goal in making this film was to show not only the dramatic death of this infamous ship, but her brief and glorious life as well. To capture the beauty, exuberance, optimism and hope of Titanic, her passengers and crew and, in the process of baring the dark side of humanity underlying this tragedy, celebrate the limitless potential of the human spirit. For Titanic is not just a cautionary tale - a myth, a parable, a metaphor for the ills of mankind. It is also a story of faith, courage, sacrifice and, above all else, love.
Writer/director James Cameron, 1997
(The Ship of Dreams)The Ship of DreamsJames Cameron's "Titanic" is an epic, action-packed romance set against the ill-fated maiden voyage of the R.M.S. Titanic, the pride and joy of the White Star Line and, at the time, the largest moving object ever built. She was the most luxurious liner of her era -- the "ship of dreams" -- which ultimately carried over 1,500 people to their death in the ice cold waters of the North Atlantic in the early hours of April 15, 1912.
(A Watery Grave)Watery GraveThe journey of "Titanic" begins in the present, at the site of the ship's watery grave, two-and-a-half miles under the ocean surface. An ambitious fortune hunter (Bill Paxton) is determined to plumb the treasures of this once-stately ship, only to bring to the surface a story left untold. The tragic ruins melt away to reveal the glittering palace that was Titanic as it prepares to launch on its maiden voyage from England. Amidst the thousands of well-wishers bidding a fond bon voyage, destiny has called two young souls, daring them to nurture a passion that would change their lives forever.
(Mysterious and Spirited Adventure)A Spirited AdventureRose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) is a 17-year-old, upper-class American suffocating under the rigid confines and expectations of Edwardian society who falls for a free-spirited young steerage passenger named Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio). Once he opens her eyes to the world that lies outside her gilded cage, Rose and Jack's forbidden love begins a powerful mystery that ultimately echoes across the years into the present. Nothing on earth is going to come between them -- not even something as unimaginable as the sinking of Titanic.
(Oscar Winning Performances)Oscar Winning PerformancesAlso inhabiting this floating microcosm are Cal Hockley, played by Billy Zane, heir to a huge fortune and Rose's fiancé, and Ruth DeWitt Bukater, Rose's socially driven mother, played by Frances Fisher. Oscar® winner Kathy Bates is featured as the ship's most colorful real-life passenger, Molly Brown. Other historic figures include Captain E.J. Smith (Bernard Hill), White Star Line's managing director J. Bruce Ismay (Jonathan Hyde), and master shipbuilder and primary architect of Titanic, Thomas Andrews (Victor Garber). Also participating in this devastating hand of fate dealt to the passengers of Titanic are an Italian emigrant named Fabrizio De Rossi (Danny Nucci), Jack's poor but determined best friend; and Spicer Lovejoy (David Warner), Cal Hockley's ruthlessly loyal valet.
The scene that tore all movie-goers hearts out while Jack
freezes holding Rose' hand at the end of the movie.
Quotes from Jack Dawson and Rose Dewitt Bukater
"Winning that ticket, Rose, was the
best thing that ever happened to me.
Rose...it brought me to you. And I'm
thankful, really thankful for that."
"I work my way from place to place.
Tramp steamers and such. I won my
ticket on Titanic here in
a lucky hand at poker."
*Jack Dawson*
"I saw my whole life as if I'd
already lived it...an endless
parade of parties and cotillions,
yachts and polo matches...always
the same narrow people, the same
mindless chatter. I felt like I
was standing at a great precipice,
with no one to pull me back, no one
who cared...or even noticed."
*Rose DeWitt Bukater*
Quote from James Cameron
"Titanic is not just a cautionary
tale - a myth, a parable, a metaphor
for the ills of mankind. It is also a
story of faith, courage, sacrifice and,
above all else, love."
